Terms of Use
In short:
- This site is general information and attorney advertising, not legal advice.
- Using it, or contacting us through it, does not make you our client.
- Please don't send confidential details until an attorney says it's appropriate.
- You're welcome to read, print and share our pages. Please don't misuse the site or republish it as your own.
About these Terms
This website, irstax-attorney.com (the "site"), is published by Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P. and Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLC ("Whiteford," "we," "us" or "our") to describe the firm's tax controversy and tax defense practice. These Terms of Use govern your use of the site. By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy form part of these Terms. The site is intended for adults.
Attorney advertising and legal advice
Many states consider this site attorney advertising. Its content is general information, not legal advice, and prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Please do not act, or decide not to act, on anything here without advice from a lawyer about your own circumstances.
Using the site, calling or emailing us, or submitting a form does not create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship begins only when Whiteford agrees in writing to represent you, after a conflict check, usually through a signed engagement letter. Our Disclaimer explains this in more detail.
Information you send us
When you contact us or sign up for updates, please give accurate information, and share information about another person only if you have the right to do so.
To avoid conflicts of interest, please do not send confidential information about your matter, such as the details of an IRS examination, a criminal investigation or your finances, until you have spoken with a Whiteford attorney and been told it is appropriate to send it. Information you send before then may not be protected by the attorney-client privilege.
Using the site
You may view, print and share pages from the site for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided you keep any copyright and other notices intact. You may link to any page.
You may not:
- republish, sell, license or commercially exploit the site or its content, or present it as your own;
- frame or mirror the site, or imply that Whiteford endorses you or your product;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its administrative areas or its systems, or probe, scan or test their vulnerability;
- interfere with the site's operation, security features or bot protection, or introduce malicious code;
- use automated tools to access the site in a way that places an unreasonable load on it, or to harvest personal information (search engines and similar services that follow our
robots.txtare welcome); or - use the site's forms to send spam, unlawful material, or false or misleading information, or to impersonate anyone.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time, and may restrict access for anyone who violates these Terms.
Content and trademarks
The site and its content, including text, articles, videos, graphics and design, are owned by Whiteford or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. The Whiteford name and logo are trademarks of the firm. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any content or mark to you, and all rights not expressly granted are reserved.
Some pages quote or summarize public government material, such as Department of Justice press releases. That material remains subject to its original source's terms. Our summaries and commentary belong to Whiteford.
Links and third-party services
The site links to websites we do not control, such as those of the IRS, the Department of Justice and the courts, and relies on third-party services to operate, as described in our Privacy Policy. We provide links for convenience only. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy or practices of other websites, and a link is not an endorsement. Your use of another website is governed by that website's own terms and policies.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the site and how we use and share it. If these Terms and the Privacy Policy ever conflict on how we handle personal information, the Privacy Policy controls.
No warranties
THE SITE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WHITEFORD DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR FREE OF HARMFUL CODE.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WHITEFORD AND ITS PARTNERS, ATTORNEYS AND EMPLOYEES WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT.
These Terms govern use of this website only. Nothing in them limits any duty Whiteford owes a client under an engagement agreement or the rules of professional conduct.
Your responsibility for misuse
If you misuse the site or violate these Terms, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Whiteford and its partners, attorneys and employees from resulting claims, losses and reasonable costs, including attorneys' fees.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the site shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Baltimore, Maryland, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
Accessibility
We want the site to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities, and we work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Our Accessibility Statement explains how to tell us about a barrier. You can also email accessibility@irstax-attorney.com.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when they last changed. Changes take effect when posted, and your use of the site after that means you accept them.
General
These Terms, together with the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Whiteford about your use of the site. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may. The word "including" means "including without limitation."
